Butte County Schools FIRE RELIEF FUND
NEW Jan 17, 2019 update:
The Butte County Office of Education (BCOE), in conjunction with the North Valley Community Foundation (NVCF), is working to distribute all donations from the Butte County Schools Fire Relief Fund to school districts by mid-February.
BCOE staff has been processing donations that have poured in since the outbreak of the Camp Fire in early November. This includes unloading, unpacking, and meticulously cataloging all material, in-kind, and monetary donations. Now that the spring school term is in full swing, BCOE and NVCF are now looking ahead to distribution.
A committee is in place to ensure that all donations to the Butte County Schools Fire Relief Fund are accurately accounted for and fairly allocated.
Material donations such as school supplies, sports equipment, books, and clothing will be made available directly to the teachers and students who need them during open-house events in the coming weeks.
Monetary donations in the form of cash, checks, and gift cards will be allocated to school districts in an amount proportional to the number of students that lost homes within those districts. Schools will have the discretion to spend this money as they see fit once they receive it.
The committee is waiting for an accurate student count to post, for donor checks to clear, and for a complete list of the donations earmarked for specific purposes or entities prior to distributing any funds. BCOE and NVCF expect to have these requirements met and monetary funds in the hands of school districts by mid-February. Funds donated after this initial distribution will be similarly distributed throughout the year.
BCOE is tremendously grateful for the generosity of all who have already contributed to the Butte County Schools Fire Relief Fund, and to those who will do so in the future.
The Butte County Office of Education created the Schools Fire Relief Fund to provide a one-stop location where individuals or organizations can provide monetary support directly to schools in Butte County. Donors can either specify a school, distinct use (textbooks, clothes, etc.), or make an open donation. BCOE will allocate “open” donations to schools in an amount proportional to the number of students that lost homes within those schools. Administration will have discretion to spend this money as they see fit once they receive it.
Donations of materials goods, food, water, and clothing—all of which are greatly appreciated and needed—can be made to The Salvation Army. They have set up a distribution center at 1100 Marauder Street in Chico.
For additional information about the distribution center, call 530-776-1009.
If you prefer to issue a monetary donation, you may do so online at https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/ or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY
**If you call, you can designate your donation to Camp Fire aid.
